Steven Curtis Chapman's Daughter Killed in SUV Accident
May 22, 2008
The 5-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman died after being struck by an SUV in the driveway of the family's Nashville-area home late Wednesday afternoon (May 21). Maria Sue Chapman was playing in the area with several other children. Her teenaged brother did not see her in the driveway when he struck her with the Toyota Land Cruiser he was driving. A spokesman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol termed it "a terrible accident" and said no charges are expected to be filed. The child was the youngest in the family and one of three daughters adopted by Chapman and wife Mary Beth. The entire family was home at the time of the accident. Steven Curtis Chapman, 45, has won 51 Dove awards from the Gospel Music Association and five Grammys.

I saw him and his sons in concert last year do this song.
I gues this is the firey furnace that this family will be enduring. Good thing God is in there with him. So tragic and sad. Just like Cindy Morrone.
Love, Laura
Yes, Laura, it's just Heartbreaking. I feel so sad for them, for anyone who is going through the painful loss of a loved one.
I have to ramble here about this for a few minutes:
You know, Godless people have concluded that there is no God of Love, who would allow this innocent child to perish, families to be crushed, the son to have to live with this pain. Consider that this man has spent his life writing and performing Songs of Praise and worship. Still, death and sorrow comes to his house too.
We all understand the laws of nature. We've experienced cause and effect and to those ends it seems that believers can trust that God will NOT intervene in every miserable circumstance or event in our lives. But sometimes there are miracles. Tragedy is averted. People are saved. Lives are extended. Why not always?
Why can't we count on our God to step in, for our salvation policy to cover every move we make and resulting consequence here on Earth?
Even those of us who know Jesus struggle with these things, and have to come to terms with our faith during times of loss. Sometimes we turn away from God and 'go the way of unbelief'. Sometimes it seems easier to imagine NO God, than a God who doesn't seem to care. Having experienced a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and knowing that pain and death is inevitable, I could not deny the saving grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and all the benefits of having the Holy Spirit in my life.
If I'm going to have to suffer in this life, I want to lean on something which is capable of comforting me in my darkest hour, to allow the spirit of God free reign in my soul to sustain me until I am standing in his presence again. It all just sucks pretty bad sometimes. So sad.
"For We know that ALL(unbearable painful) things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to HIS purpose." Rom 8:28
God Be With The Chapman family and friends at this time. Especially to comfort the son. In Jesus name.
